Google Docs Compliance Review: Adclear Adds Drive Import

A blurry image of office workers with the title of this blog in bold on top - "AI in Compliance Review: Signal vs Hype"

London, 23 September 2026. Adclear, the AI compliance platform for financial promotions, has released Google Drive import. Marketing teams at regulated firms can now paste a Google Docs or Google Drive link into Adclear and have the file pulled straight into a promotion for compliance review. When the Doc changes, Adclear brings the new version in as well, with no re-download and no re-upload.

The release removes one of the most common friction points in financial promotion approval. Most marketing copy at banks, wealth managers and fintechs is drafted in Google Docs. Getting it in front of compliance has usually meant exporting a PDF, uploading it, then repeating the process every time a reviewer asks for a change. Adclear's import replaces that with a link.

How Google Drive import works

Open a new promotion in Adclear, choose the Google Drive tab and paste a share link. Adclear detects the source, pulls the file in and converts it on the way: Google Docs, Sheets and Slides arrive as PDFs, Drawings as PNGs, and images, video, audio and PDFs stored in Drive come through as they are. From there the promotion is filled in and submitted as usual.

Pasting a Drive link anywhere else in Adclear, including the field normally used for website screenshots, routes it to the same importer. Office formats such as .docx and .pptx are not supported at import; teams should save to a Google format or export to PDF first.

Google Docs with tabs become promotions with variants

Marketing teams often keep several versions of a promotion in one Google Doc using document tabs. Adclear reads those tabs on import and shows a picker. A single tab becomes a single promotion. Several tabs can be combined into one promotion or brought in as separate variants of the same promotion, so A/B copy for the same campaign is reviewed together rather than as unrelated uploads.

Edits in Google, versions in Adclear

Promotions imported from Google Drive carry a sync indicator in the header. Adclear checks the source file when the promotion is opened and shows whether it is in sync or an update is available. Choosing "Check Google Docs for updates" pulls the current content in as the next version, keeps the caption, promotion type, deadline, linked claims and target markets, and re-runs the compliance evaluation automatically.

This matches how review actually happens. A reviewer requests a change, the marketer edits the Doc, and the revised copy is in Adclear as V2 without anyone touching a file.

Adclear reads one way only. It takes a copy of the file you choose and never writes back to Google Drive. Access is per file, not per account: connecting a Google account, when that option is enabled, gives Adclear access only to the files a user confirms, one at a time.

What is available now

Files shared as "anyone with the link" import today with no Google sign-in. Importing private files, files shared with you, and browsing Drive with the Google Picker will follow once Google completes its review of Drive access for the platform. Adclear's documentation covers supported formats, size limits and troubleshooting: Importing from Google Drive.

Why this matters for financial promotions compliance

Financial promotions in the UK are governed by the FCA's rules on communications with clients, including the requirement under COBS 4 that promotions are fair, clear and not misleading. In the US, SEC-registered advisers and FINRA members face equivalent standards for advertisements and retail communications. Meeting those standards depends on the version a reviewer approves being the version that goes live. Every manual export between Google Docs and a review tool is a chance for those to diverge.

By importing from the source and tracking revisions, Adclear keeps the reviewed copy tied to the document marketers are actually editing. Combined with Adclear's rule-based evaluation, which checks each version against the firm's configured regulatory and internal rules before a reviewer opens it, the result is a shorter path from draft to approved promotion and a cleaner audit trail behind it.

[Quote from Doni Hoti, CEO, or Joe Jordan, CCO, to be added before publishing. Suggested angle: why the team built it into the tools marketers already use rather than asking them to change workflow.]
